LA CHAQUETA CRUZADA / THE DB JACKET

 

La chaqueta cruzada, que tiene su origen en la blazer, es la mas elegante de todas las chaquetas y, por su parte, el traje cruzado tiene un empaque que consigue aportar una clase que no lo hacen los demás trajes. 

 

 

La confección de una americana normal es la más frecuente, y se compone de botones que se sitúan  en el borde de uno de los lados y manteniendo los ojales en el otro, que se unen en una línea vertical que queda por encima del ombligo.

 

The single-breasted construction is much more common, and consists of buttons on one edge and button holes on the other, meeting in a vertical line over the navel.

 

 

Por su parte, las chaquetas cruzadas se caracterizan por tener unos conjuntos simétricos de botones en cada uno de los lados, el lado izquierdo se pliega sobre el derecho y se encuentra asegurado su cierre con un botón interior.

 

The double-breasted coat bears symmetrical sets of buttons on each side, with the left side folding over the right to be secured by one or two of them.

 

 

 

Las americanas normales son las más habituales y le quedan bien a casi todo el mundo, cosa que no sucede con las chaquetas cruzadas.

Single-breasted jackets are easy to find and look good on just about everyone.

 

 

Las americanas normales, bien sean individuales o bien sean parte de un traje, se pueden hacer con dos o tres botones, las solapas anchas o estrechas, de acuerdo a las necesidades particulares del cuerpo. Para cada hombre hay una configuración diferente de las americanas que garantizan un resultado elegante. Pero con las chaquetas cruzadas no sucede lo mismo, ya que los defectos resultan mucho más difíciles de disimular. 

Whether blazer or suit jacket, it can be made with two or three buttons, wide or narrow lapels, according to the particular needs of one’s body. For every man, there is a single-breasted configuration that is guaranteed to look handsome. But in case of DB jackets, this question is absolutely different because the jacket can not conceal our imperfections.  

 

Pero por otro lado, las chaquetas cruzadas exigen una mayor dedicación de tiempo y esfuerzo para lograr el éxito de un acabado impecable, que es algo que siempre compensa.

While the double-breasted coat demands a greater investment of time and effort to acquire and wear successfully, for many men the payoff is fantastic.

 

 

 

El hombre que por su figura y complexión puede llevar un traje cruzado, no debe renunciar nunca a vestirlo porque ofrece la oportunidad de lucir la prenda de vestir más elegante. 

 

Nevertheless, for the man who can wear it, the double-breasted suit provides a rare opportunity to don a more stylish garment.
 

 

 

 

Resulta difícil para la mayoría de los hombres encontrar un traje cruzado que quede realmente bien, pero la mano de un buen sastre podrá potenciar las virtudes de nuestra figura y disimular las posibles deficiencias.

While it is indeed hard for most men to find one that looks really superb, when custom made its length, gorge height, button stance and lapel roll may each be selected to amplify a body’s virtues and distract from any shortcomings.

 

 

 

Existen diferentes tipos de chaquetas cruzadas, dependiendo del número de botones que tengan:
 

6×2: Tienen 6 botones, de los que solo se pueden abotonan 2. Los demás son ornamentales.

6 x 2

6×1: Tienen 6 botones, de los que solo se puede abotonar 1.

6 x 1

 
4×2: Tienen 4 botones y solo dos de ellos se pueden abotonar.

4 x 2

4×1: Tienen 4 botones y se abotona únicamente 1.

 

4 x 1

Cuando la chaqueta tiene dos ojales para abotonar, nunca se abrochan los dos, únicamente se deberá abotonar el superior, y el inferior quedará siempre suelto.

 

 

There are different types of double-breasted jackets, depending on the number of buttons:

6x2: They have 6 buttons, and you only can buttons up 2. The others are ornamental.
6x1: They have 6 buttons, and you only can buttons up 1.
4x2: They have 4 buttons, and you only can buttons up 2.
4x1: They have 4 buttons, and you only can buttons up 1.

When the jacket has two buttonhole buttoning they never fasten the two , only it must be buttoned the top , and the bottom will always loose.

 

 

Mis favoritas son la 6x2 y 4x2, que resultan las más elegantes.

 

In my opinion 6x2 y 4x2 db jackets are the most elegant.

 

Existen otros modelos menos frecuentes que no gozan de mi predilección como el 8x3, o el 1x1, que limitan la elegancia de la chaqueta cruzada.

 

There are another kind of DB jacket like 8x3, but I must confess taht I don't like it.

Las chaquetas cruzadas nunca se llevarán con chaleco y resultan igual de elegantes vestidas formalmente con traje, como en combinaciones informales.     

DB jackets won't get dressed with a waistcoat and will always be elegant in a suit or in a sport combination.
